Traditional Ukrainian Folk Designs
Learn to decorate eggs with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist method. Beeswax is used to draw the pattern on the egg then dipped into colors from light to dark. No worries even those that say they are not artistic can find success. Using rubber bands as a guide to draw your lines will help. A printout of the patternbeing drawn will be provided.

Students Provide: empty egg carton and votive candle

Tools needed will be provided for use in class by instructor. Options for purchasing your own supplies from instructor will be discussed in class.

Tools provided: Kistka, bees wax, farm fresh egg (2 per person), Alcohol lamp, rubber bands, paper towels. Dye colors: yellow, orange, scarlet, light blue, light green and black.
If you have your own tools and want to bring them to class, please do so.

Eggs- are limited to 2 per student, however,if you have farm fresh eggs and want to bring them. Here is what you need to know.

Must be farm/fresh eggs not store bought. Farm eggs have a thicker skin.

Wash (no soap) the eggs gently because any scrubbing, even though not seen will show up in the coloring.

Eggs will not be blown out but in time harden inside. Therefore, the outer shell must be thicker then store bought.

The color ofthe egg will change the outcome. White eggs are more vibrant in color, but all egg colors will be perfect.
