An introductory class to learn about how to make Pysanky, UkrainianEaster Eggs. The course will discuss the historical origins, traditions, customs, and legends surrounding the making of the eggs. Students will learn about and symbolismof the colors and designs used onthe eggs as well as the traditional technique of applying wax and dyes on eggs to create them. Moderntools and applications and adaptations will also be discussed. A short video will be shown, examplesand literature will be on displayand sources for books and materials will be given.

Age Range: 12 years and older

Price: $45 (AMH Members) $55 (Non Members)

Students must also bring the following to class:

– 6 small clean jars with lids (11-16 oz jelly / or peanut butter jars withat least 2-3 inch opening) for the mixed dyes.

– Empty egg carton to carry finished eggs home in

– Students will be working with permanent dyes and dress accordingly, bring apron or protective shirts.

About Instructor:

Marianna has an Associate of Applied Science in Fine Art from Ulster County CommunityCollege and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from SUNY New Paltz. Being an active artist all her life, she has created pieces inpencil, colored pencils, printmaking, pen & ink, pastels, watercolors, scratchboard, oils, photographs, and acrylics with many pieces derived from her own photos. She has show works in local galleries, shows and special events.

Marianna is a member of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, and through them, and has immersed herself in learning about her ethnic culture and heritage. As a member and an artist, Marianna hasused ger skills to further one ofthe League mandates to help preserve and protect our culture, traditions and art forms, and to also educate and share them with others.
