Paul A. Goble, a specialist on Eurasia and the post-Soviet region, will discuss the positive developments in Ukraine that are often overshadowed by news stories focusingon systemic corruption and the Donbas war. Close to four years after the Maidan protests and the beginning of the Russian invasion, Ukrainians have succeeded in creatinga vibrant civil society, in stabilizing the economy, and, most of all, in defending their country against a powerful enemy with the thehelp of volunteers and an army build practically from scratch.

Mr. Goble maintains the influential “Window on Eurasia” blog and is a regular contributor to various publications. He has served as vice dean at the Audentes University in Tallinn, as director of research and publications at the Azerbaijan DIplomatic Academy, and in variouscapacities at the Central Intelligence Agency, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and the U.S. Department of State.
